A2
Assisted AI helped brainstorm, outline, or edit. Human wrote the draft.

AI as a Thinking Partner

The human wrote every word. AI helped sharpen the thinking.

"I used AI to brainstorm and organize. The writing is mine."

What This Level Means

A2 Assisted is for content where AI was a collaborator in the thinking process, but never the writer.

Human wrote the first draft

Every sentence originated from a human mind. AI never generated prose that made it into the final piece.

AI may have helped with ideation

Brainstorming topics, generating outlines, suggesting angles—these are fair game for A2.

AI never generated final sentences

Grammar fixes and word suggestions are fine, but AI-written paragraphs push you to A3 or higher.

Human remained in creative control

You made all the creative decisions. AI was a sounding board, not a co-author.

The line between A1 and A2

A1 means zero generative AI involvement. The moment you ask ChatGPT for outline suggestions, have Grammarly rewrite a sentence, or use AI to brainstorm ideas, you've crossed into A2 territory.

This isn't a demotion—it's an honest acknowledgment of how most modern writing happens. A2 is a perfectly respectable level that says: "I used the tools available to me, and I wrote the words myself."

Examples That Fit A2

Common scenarios where AI assisted the process but humans did the writing.

Blog posts outlined with AI, written by human

You asked ChatGPT for a structure, then wrote every paragraph yourself.

Essays edited for grammar by AI tools

Grammarly or similar tools fixed typos and suggested rewording, but you crafted the original sentences.

Articles where AI suggested structure improvements

AI recommended reorganizing sections or adding headings, but the words remained yours.

Content where AI helped research but didn't write

You used AI to summarize sources or find information, then synthesized it in your own voice.

Presentations brainstormed with AI assistance

AI helped generate talking points or themes, but you wrote all the slides and speaker notes.

Creative writing with AI-suggested plot elements

You bounced ideas off AI for character names or plot twists, but wrote the narrative yourself.

What doesn't fit A2

  • - AI-generated paragraphs that you edited and kept (that's A3)
  • - Content translated by AI, even if you reviewed it (that's A3)
  • - AI wrote the first draft and you rewrote it (that's A3)
  • - Any AI-generated text that made it into the final version (A3 or higher)

Who's Accountable

"The author wrote every sentence. AI was a thinking partner, not a ghost writer."

Full authorship

You can claim complete credit for writing the content. The words are yours.

Full responsibility

Every claim, every opinion, every factual statement is on you.

Honest disclosure

You're transparent that AI played a supporting role in your process.

Why Disclose A2

Being upfront about AI assistance builds trust and sets a standard for responsible disclosure.

Honest about modern writing workflows

Most professionals use AI for ideation or editing. A2 acknowledges this reality without overstating AI's role.

Respects AI-skeptical audiences

Readers who value human authorship can trust that every sentence came from you, not a model.

Maintains human authorship claims

You can legitimately claim credit for writing the work—because you did write it.

Transparent about creative process

Showing that AI was a brainstorming partner builds trust and models responsible AI use.

The bigger picture

A2 represents how most thoughtful knowledge workers use AI today. They leverage it for research, ideation, and polish—but the creative work remains human.

By disclosing A2, you're helping normalize honest AI use. You're showing that there's nothing to hide when AI is used as a tool rather than a replacement. And you're building trust with audiences who appreciate transparency.
